What is NorCAP?
The North Coast AIDS Project (NorCAP) is a division of the Humboldt County Health and Human Services Public Health Branch - Health Education Division. NorCAP provides HIV education and prevention and client (case management) services.
Education and Prevention
NorCAP’s education and prevention program informs and supports people in preventing HIV and hepatitis C transmission. Specific high risk populations are targeted for intensive education in group, individual and street outreach settings.
The Education and Prevention program provides the following:
- Information and support for people at risk of contracting HIV and hepatitis C
- HIV/AIDS information resource for the North Coast community.
- HIV/hepatitis C counseling and testing services during street outreach activities
Client Services
NorCAP provides case management, counseling, resource referral, and advocacy services for people living with HIV and their families.
Client services also include:
- Educational workshops:
NorCAP facilitates educational workshops for people living with HIV/AIDS
- Buddy volunteer program:
Buddy volunteers provide one-on-one emotional and practical support for persons living with HIV/AIDS
- Professional volunteer program:
Professional volunteers donate their services to low income persons with HIV/AIDS who would otherwise be unable to access them. Professional volunteer services offered include legal, counseling, and massage.
- HIV Support Group:
"Positive Spirit" support group provides a safe space for people living with HIV/AIDS to come together and share experiences, problem solve, gain emotional and social support along with current health education.

HIV Testing:
Anonymous and free HIV testing is available at the Public Health Branch. Although the test does not tell if a person has AIDS or will develop AIDS, the test will tell if a person has been infected with HIV. For more information about the HIV antibody test, call (707) 268-2109.

AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP):
The Public Health Branch administers ADAP. ADAP provides most medications used in the treatment of HIV disease. These medications can be provided at no cost or on a co-payment basis. Medi-Cal and CMPS are accepted. For more information about ADAP, call (707) 268-2105.
