  • Charlie Chin, Storyteller, Musician and Historian

Featured Storyteller at Storytelling by the Sea Festival

Wednesday, Sept. 8, 6:30 p.m.Image: Charlie Chin smiles over his fan.

Wearing the robe of a Chinese scholar and using only a folded paper fan, Mr. Chin creates fantastic worlds and carries the audience to faraway times and places. He is a musician, author, historian, and classically-trained storyteller who has been performing, writing, and teaching for more than 30 years.  In 1989, the Smithsonian Institute presented him with the "Community Folklore Scholar Certificate" in recognition of his work. Bring your family and friends to hear this learned and delightful storyteller who, with a wave of his fan, will deepen your understanding of Chinese American history and culture while presenting world-class stories you won't hear anywhere else.

     Two Showings:  1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

See Belcher maps, Swanlund slides, and Shuster photos that depict the Eureka of circa 1910, and then study snapshots of Eureka 2010.   We’ll advance past the old Vance Mill, try to find the Eureka Foundry, and cut through Cutten, all the time chronicling the city’s changes over the last century or so.
***All seats will be available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.***
