Eureka to Willits
Humboldt County Historical Society Lecture Series
Alexandra Service, and
the Fortuna Depot Museum.
The year 2014 marks the centennial of the completion of the Northwestern Pacific Railroad. Join us to hear Susan O'Hara and Alexandra Service talk about their timely new book, Northwestern Pacific Railroad: Eureka to Willits. They will bring copies and autograph their work.
The six-year engineering effort to connect rail lines from San Francisco, which ended at Sherwood, near Willits, with the early lumber company railroads around Humboldt Bay reached its completion when rail lines from the south and from the north finally met at Cain Rock in October 1914. The Golden Spike celebration at Cain Rock is depicted on the book's cover.
Sometimes these lecture programs do fill up, but tickets (free) are available at the door beginning at noon on the day of the program. If the program fills, a second program is generally held at 3:00 p.m.
The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About Christmas
Join your friends at the library to watch the premiere of this brand-new Cat in the Hat PBS holiday special, courtesy of Keet TV. The movie is about an hour long.
The Cat in the Hat, Nick, and Sally journey around the world to help a lost reindeer find his way home to Freezeyourknees, Snowland in time for Christmas. On the way, their Thingamajigger vehicle breaks down and they depend on a variety of animals - from African bush elephants to bottlenose dolphins to red crabs - to help them make an amazing journey home.
