Vote-By-Mail Voting

Any registered voter may vote by vote-by-mail ballot.
Voters may  cast vote-by-mail ballots in person in the Elections office (address below) during the vote-by-mail voting period which begins twenty-nine days before an election and extends until the close of polls on election day. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The office is open until 8:00 p.m. on election days.

Most vote-by-mail voters request and cast their ballots by mail.  Vote-By-Mail Ballot requests must be received seven days before election day by 5:00 p.m. to receive a ballot by mail.  Voters may request a vote-by-mail ballot by any of the following three methods:

  1. Completing the request form from the back of your sample ballot and mailing it back to us.

  2. Send us a letter at the address below.  Your letter must have your name, residence address in Humboldt County, the address to which the ballot is to be mailed (if different than your residence) and your signature. You may also fax your request to 707-445-7204.

    Elections Office
    3033 H Street, Room 20
    Eureka, CA  95501

    1. Use the convenient online application.  Fill in the requested information and click the Submit button; your request will be sent to us electronically.  Note that this application is for individual voters only.

State law prevents us from issuing vote-by-mail ballots based on a request over the phone.  This prevents anyone requesting a vote-by-mail ballot in someone else's name.  Therefore, you must request a vote-by-mail ballot in writing.  We must receive your written request at least seven days before an election.

Permanent Vote-By-Mail Voting
Any California voter may request to become a permanent vote-by-mail voter. Permanent vote-by-mail voters are mailed a vote-by-mail ballot for each election in which he or she is eligible to vote. Permanent vote-by-mail voters remain on the permanent vote-by-mail list unless they fail to return a voted ballot in a Primary or General Election.

To become a permanent vote-by-mail voter, complete the vote-by-mail application on the back of your sample ballot. Be sure to check the box on the application indicating you wish to become a permanent vote-by-mail voter. You can also download the Permanent Vote-By-Mail Voter Application** .  Mail or fax the completed application to the Registrar of Voters.
