Family to Family
Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services and Probation Departments are among many counties in California that have partnered with the Annie E. Casey Foundation to implement Family to Family strategies. Family to Family provides a framework to partner with families and communities to improve system results in the child welfare system based on four basic principles:
At its core, Family to Family applies 4 basic principles:
- A child’s safety is paramount;
- Children belong in families;
- Families need strong communities; and
- Public child welfare systems need partnerships with the community and with other systems to achieve strong outcomes for children.
Family to Family incorporates 4 strategies that are integral to the initiative:
- Building Community Partnerships to create an environment that supports families involved with the child welfare system.
- Team Decision Making to ensure a network of support for children and the adults who care for them.
- Resource Family Recruitment Development and Support that can support children and families in their own neighborhoods, communities and tribes.
- Self-Evaluation to determine how policy and practice need to be changed to bring about further improvement.
