What is Healthy Kids Humboldt?

Healthy Kids Humboldt is the local Children’s Health Initiative. Its goal is to ensure that all eligible children ages 0 through 18 in Humboldt County have access to health insurance coverage. They do this by reaching out to uninsured families and helping them enroll in low- and no-cost health insurance options.

How Does It Work?

Healthy Kids Humboldt enrolls children in these insurance programs:
  • Medi-Cal: Comprehensive coverage at no-cost to low income children
  • Healthy Families: Comprehensive coverage at a low cost to low- and middle income children, and
  • CalKids: Limited coverage at a low cost to low- and middle-income children not eligible for Medi-Cal or Healthy Families. CalKids is available to children, regardless of where they were born.

How Do Families Get Enrolled?

Depending on the family income, children can be enrolled in one of the three programs. Families need to call and make an appointment with a Certified Application Assistor (CAA) at Healthy Kids Humboldt. The number to call for an appointment is (707) 442-6066. The CAA then helps the family with the paperwork so that the child can be enrolled in insurance. They will help families find the right insurance for their child.
