Ancestry.com
The Fortuna Branch Library has a subscription to this genealogy database. Unlike the other resources below, it cannot be used online from home.  The Ancestry subscription can be accessed only from the computers located at the Fortuna Branch. Call (707) 725-3460.


Articles and Documents from MasterFILE
Search for articles in 1,700 periodicals covering general reference, business, health, education, general science, multicultural issues and much more. This database also contains full text more than 500 reference books, over 107,000 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of over 592,000 photos, maps & flags.


Auto Repair Reference Center
Search repair and maintenance information on most domestic and imported vehicles. Covers more than 37,000 vehicles from 1945 to the present, with wiring diagrams, step-by-step repair instructions, diagnostic information, detailed drawings, and films. New repair procedures, Technical Service Bulletins, and updates are added on a regular basis.


California Digital Newspaper Collection, 1849  - 1911
Historic articles from newspapers across California can be searched by keyword with this helpful tool from the University of California at Riverside. Call (707) 725-3460.


Ebscohost eBooks – Read eBooks online
The library subscribes to Ebscohost to offer patrons free access to eBooks on a variety of topics useful for homework, practical needs, cultural interests, entertainment, and learning. To see the current list of eBooks available through Ebsco, use the link above. You can read these books on the computer screen.

MEDLINEplus en Español – Informacion medica en español

MEDLINEplus is a database you can use to help answer health questions. This database brings together, by health topic, authoritative information from the National Library of Medicine, theNational Institutes of Health, and other government, non-profit and health-related organizations. It includes drug information and an illustrated medical encyclopedia.


Overdrive Library to Go – eBooks and eAudiobooks
A digital book resource: downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks for adults and children.  From your home computer or using your own device, you can download novels, nonfiction, and audiobooks from Overdrive. (Due to restrictions from Overdrive, it is not possible to download Overdrive material using the Library's public computers.  You must use your own equipment.) How to use Overdrive...


Student Research Center
For students high school and upward looking for information for research papers and homework. Sources of articles in this collection include Magazines, Newspapers, Books & Encyclopedias, Biographies, Radio & TV News Transcripts, Country Reports, State and Province Reports, Primary Source Documents, Photos, Maps & Flags. Some articles included have a Lexile reading level score; search results can be limited by reading level, so this database can also be used for literacy purposes.


Times-Standard Index
A local index of the Eureka Times-Standard daily newspaper, covering articles 1989 - 2005; maintained by Humboldt State University Library. This index allows you to search for keywords and phrases and find the dates and titles of articles. You may use these dates to find the articles on microfilm by using the microfilm readers and rolls at either the Eureka Main Library or HSU.

BookFLIX – Digital books and movies

BookFlix pairs fun video stories from Weston Woods with factual eBooks from Scholastic to boost reading skills and add to knowledge and understanding. This online resource also includes titles with a read-along option, some Spanish titles, some educational games and author biographies.


California Fact Cards    
Quick facts about California history, helpful for students of all ages.  Topics include: California Indian Tribes, Ranchos, Counties, Explorers, Governors, Missions,  Mission Life, and California History by Decades.



Kids Search
Articles, encyclopedias, and more. You can search by general topic or by keywords; sort results by relevance, as well as by date, and add search results, images, or links to searches to a folder. Use the "detailed search" to limit by lexile score or source type (for example, if you want newspaper articles about elephants in a particular lexile range, you can use the detailed search.)
