HERS Verification

HERS verification is required to comply with most non-residential HVAC equipment change-outs and duct system alterations in all climate zones, per Sec. 149(b)1.D of the 2005 Building Energy Efficiency Standards. You will see this addressed on Page 3 of the Perf-1 form of your Title 24 documentation, better known as "energy calcs." Residential change-outs and alterations remain exempt in our local Humboldt County Climate Zone (1), but may be required in Climate Zone (2) [eastern Humboldt County].

HERS verification may also be required for new non-residential construction, per Sec. 144(k) of the 2005 Building Energy Efficiency Standards, as called for by the Title 24 documents. Again, this is addressed on Page 3 of the Perf-1 form of the energy calcs.

New residential construction often requires HERS verification, per Sec. 151(f).10 of the 2005 Building Energy Efficiency Standards, as called for the the Title 24 documents. This may be in the form of duct testing or quality insulation verification, two of the most common measures used for compliance credits in our climate zones. You will see either 'HERS VERIFICATION REQUIRED' or 'HERS VERIFICATION NOT REQUIRED' on Page 1 of the CF-1R form of the energy calcs.

Please note this addresses only a few of the new measures found in the 2005 Energy Standards, which we will see in our area.
