Brownfields Information

Historically the economic drivers in Humboldt County have been timber and fishing. The decline of these industries and the communities they supported has lead to a current situation where a there is a significant amount of potentially contaminated property in Humboldt County. Commonly called Brownfields.

The reuse of these properties represents an opportunity for the development of new industries in our County. An additional benefit in reusing brownfields is the preservation of the agricultural and resource lands that continue to make a significant contribution to our local economy.

Brownfield Cleanup: With USEPA grant funds the County has established a Brownfields Cleanup Loan Fund. This One Million dollar fund provides low interest loans to property owners, cities, and tribes for brownfield cleanup in Humboldt County.
