Humboldt County Fire Safe Council

The County of Humboldt has prepared the Humboldt County Master Fire Protection Plan, a

Community Wildfire Protection Plan, to be used as a framework for fire coordination, prevention,

 and protection throughout the county.

The Board of Supervisors formed an ad-hoc advisory Fire Safe

Council to guide the development of the Fire Plan as well as its implementation.

The Council also serves as a forum for community organizations and representatives to

share fire-safety information, assess fire risk, set fire protection priorities, and develop

policies for integration into the County General Plan.

The Community Development Services Department managed the Fire Plan preparation

with assistance from local consultants, Planwest Partners and ForEverGreen Forestry.

This project places its focus on improving the countywide fuels reduction and firesafe planning strategy

through a coordinated update and refinement of the Humboldt County CWPP and local CWPPs

Sheriff Search and Rescue

This funding will be used to reimburse the county for the cost of search and rescue and other emergency

Master Fire Protection Plan

The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors (BOS), at their August 15th 2006 meeting,

approved the Master Fire Protection Plan (MFPP) to be forwarded on to the General Plan

Update process and certified the MFPP as a Community Wildfire Protection Plan. The FSC

is now providing guidance for implementing specific measures from the plan.  We hope that

if you have input and/or skills that will be valuable to the success of this program you will

contact us. Thanks to all of you who have already put energy into the plan development

process!

If you have any questions about this process please send an email to Cybelle Immitt or call

2009-2010 Humboldt County Hazardous Fuels Reduction Plan Update **New**

The purpose of this process was to update the hazardous fuels reduction plan portion of the

2006 Humboldt County Master Fire Protection Plan (MFPP) which is Humboldt County’s

equivalent to a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP).  The results of the update process

are cataloged and displayed in the following document as well as in a web-based geographic

Information systems (GIS) mapping tool known as the Humboldt GIS Portal (www.humboldtGISportal.com).

The fuels reduction project data described in this document and displayed in the GIS Portal were

generated through the evaluation of projects identified in the 2006 MFPP, gathered at community

based meetings, and reviewed and refined by local Fire Safe Council (FSC) representatives,

Humboldt County staff, and fire agency personnel.
