Captain Melinda Ciarabellini  

Photo of Lieutenant Miranda Ciarabellini Melinda Ciarabellini is a 26-year veteran of law enforcement and corrections. Melinda joined the Humboldt County Sheriffs Office in 1977 as a part time Correctional Officer while attending Humboldt State University. She was hired as a Deputy Sheriff in 1979 and has served on patrol, special operations and in corrections. Melinda was promoted to Supervising Correctional Officer in 1983 and to Correctional Lieutenant in 1987. During her career, Melinda has participated in many custody related projects and programs including substance abuse treatment programs, mentally ill offender programs, alternatives to incarceration programs and jail design and construction.

Melinda is currently the captain in charge of the Custody Services Bureau overseeing 115 Correctional Officers and 20 civilian employees in the 411 bed Direct Supervision facility as well as the Sheriffs Work Alternative Programs. 

Melinda earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and a Master of Arts degree in Education from Humboldt State University. She also has a Community College Teaching Credential and is an instructor at the Basic Police Academy and Corrections Core Course at College of the Redwoods. She possesses a Basic and Intermediate Certificate from the Peace Officers Standards and Training of California, a Certificate in Jail Management from the California State Board of Corrections and is a member of the American Jail Association.
