On 1-12-2013, approximately 9:00 a.m. Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and California Highway Patrol Officers returned to 500 Flint Rock Road , Garberville. Deputies obtained a Humboldt County Superior Court search warrant for the residence and property after receiving new information from citizens about possible additional stolen property in the residence and on the property. When the deputies arrived they located Deanna McDonald, 33 years old and her two small children at the residence. Deputies searched McDonalds vehicle parked at the residence and found a loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun. McDonald was issued a notice to appear for possession of a loaded weapon by a prohibited person and released at the scene to care for her two small children, one which was an infant.

Deputies searched the residence and located stolen jewelry that had been reported stolen in a residential burglary of a nearby residence. Deputies also located a stolen new UTV Kabota Tractor on the property along with a stolen concrete cutter, air compressor and what is believed to be numerous stolen chainsaws. Many of these items were reported stolen from local residences in the Eel River Valley, Dyerville and Highway 36 areas.

Deputies continued the search for a cache of firearms they believed was stashed somewhere on the property. This was based on the numerous empty gun cases they found during earlier searches. During the search of the 55 acre property an alert deputy located a cave in some rocks that was covered with brush. Upon further investigation the deputy discovered the cave was filled with numerous firearms. Deputies recovered 100 weapons on the property, 99 of which were in that cave. Of the weapons recovered at least 20 are confirmed as stolen. Deputies recovered a fully automatic MG 42 caliber WW II Machine gun that is belt fed with a belt full of ammunition. In the weapons cache were numerous assault weapons including SKS, Colt AR-15’s, sawed off shotguns with pistol grips and Tech Nine assault weapons. Several of the assault weapons are to believed to be fully automatic. Many of the weapons were loaded.

This is an ongoing investigation. Additional charges against Ryan Floyd will be sought.



The investigation into Ryan Floyd is continuing. Deputies located approximately 42 grams of hashish at Floyd’s residence, an additional four grams of suspected methamphetamine, an additional stolen trailer ( besides the stolen car), thousands of rounds of various ammunition, twenty ballistic vests, numerous tactical holsters and empty rifle cases, and a total of 6 high capacity magazines. The Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into this case and the California Highway Patrol is assisting with processing the numerous vehicles on the property to determine whether or not they are stolen. The total amount of dried marijuana bud seized on the property was approximately 117 pounds.


On 02-07-2013, approximately 0830 hours, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and Humboldt County Drug Task Force Agents conducted a probation search at the residence of Ryan Floyd 30 years old, in the 500 block of Flint Rock Road ( Off Wade Road ), Garberville. When deputies arrived at the residence they located Floyd and arrested him on the outstanding no bail felony warrant for his arrest. Deputies are still on scene conducting a probation search of the residence. So far deputies have located what is estimated to be 45 pounds of dried marijuana bud, approximately $12,000.00 cash, a .45 caliber semi-automatic handgun, approximately 1 oz of suspected heroin, approximately 2 grams of suspected methamphetamine, body armor, numerous loaded high capacity magazines, scales, drug paraphernalia and other indications of drug sales and what is estimated to be over forty vehicles, along with numerous all terrain vehicles. One of the vehicles is confirmed stolen. Deputies anticipate being at the residence for a lengthy period of time conducting their investigation and searching the property and vehicles.

Besides the outstanding arrest warrant, Floyd was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for sale, cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, illegal possession of a firearm magazine, illegal possession of ammunition by a convicted felon, illegal possession of a firearm and violation of probation. Other charges may be added as the investigation continues. He was transported and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he his being held without bail.

Deputies also located a second male on the property identified as Gregory Benson, 48 years old from Garberville. Benson was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for illegal possession of ammunition and a firearm by a prohibited person. His bail was set at $50,000.00.

On 2-2-2013, approximately 11:30 p.m. a deputy attempted to pull over a black Chevy Silverado pickup truck for driving erratically and with no rear license plate on Dyerville Loop Road, near Fort Seward Road in the Dyerville area of Humboldt County. When the deputy activated his overhead lights the vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. A slow speed pursuit traveled east on Fort Seward road at speeds of around 30 mph. At one point the pickup traveled onto the middle fork of the Eel River on the gravel bar before looping back onto Fort Seward Road. A second deputy caught up with the original deputy and they continued pursing the vehicle on Fort Seward Road at speeds of approximately 30 mph. When the vehicle drove up to the intersection of Dyerville Loop Road and Fort Seward Road, it turned south onto Dyerville Loop road. Approximately one half mile later, the vehicle drove off the roadway and down a hillside before crashing into a tree. When deputies reached the vehicle it was unoccupied. Deputies learned the vehicle was registered to residence in the 29000 block of Alderpoint Road, Garberville. When contact was made with the registered owners of the truck they were on vacation out of the area. A relative checked their residence and learned the vehicle was just stolen from their residence and their residence had been burglarized.

The Sheriff’s Office is currently asking for the publics help in locating Ryan Floyd and Honey Walsh who are persons of interest in this case.

Floyd is described as follows: A white male adult, 30 years old, 5-8, 155 pounds, strawberry blond hair. He currently has a no bail felony warrant for his arrest for being armed while possessing narcotics issued by Humboldt County Superior Court.

Honey Walsh is described as: White Female adult, 29 years old, 5-6, 130 lbs, brown hair, green eyes. She is from the Cave Junction, Oregon area. She has a misdemeanor warrant for her arrest for possession of a controlled substance out of Humboldt County Superior Court.
