The man, who brought an explosive device to the Arcata/Eureka Airport Saturday morning, was questioned by officials from the FBI after he landed in Miami. Transportation Security Administration screeners found an explosive device in the man’s checked luggage after he checked in for his flight out of McKinleyville. The device was confiscated and the man was permitted to board his scheduled flight.
The FBI agents who met the man in Miami reported that they were satisfied with the man’s explanation about why he had an explosive device in his luggage; he was not taken into custody. The FBI has indicated that they do not plan to pursue federal charges at this time. Locally, the case will be forwarded to the Humboldt County District Attorney’s Office for review.
