On 06-08-2013, approximately 8:50 a.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a citizen who reported he was checking his fishing net in the Klamath River and discovered a body in the river near his nets. Deputies responded to the scene and met with the reporting party near mile post 23.40 on State Route 169, Martens Ferry. The citizen told the deputy he set his fishing net out at approximately 8:00 p.m., 06-07-2013, a short distance upstream from Owl Rock. At 7:30 a.m.,
06-08-13 he went to check his net and saw a Jetski type watercraft entangled in his net. The citizen looked further and saw a body submerged in the water. The citizen checked out the body and could see the person was obviously deceased. He called law enforcement to notify them of what he found.
Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office used a Sheriff’s Office Jet Boat to retrieve the deceased male. The Coroners Office will be conducting an autopsy to confirm the cause of death. Any further news releases, including the deceased name will be released from the Coroners Office.
