On 02/19/04 at about 0100 hours, the Humboldt County Sheriff's responded to an address on Whitmire Lane, McKinleyville, for a report of an injured female. The reporting parties stated that a white female adult had walked into their residence. The female was bleeding from a head wound and at least one wrist. The female left the area on foot when 911 was called. Deputies located the female’s vehicle parked in the driveway of the Whitmire residence. There was a large amount of blood in and around the car. The vehicle was registered to 40 year-old Karen Brink with a listed address of Grange road, McKinleyville. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the victim.
Deputies also responded to the Grange Road address and observed a large amount of blood on the porch and interior of the residence, and no one was located.
A canine unit from the Eureka Police Department assisted in the search of the Whitmire Lane area.
At this time the investigation is being treated as a missing person/suspicious circumstances. Brink is a white adult female, 5’05”, 150 lbs, brown hair, and brown eyes.
