Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies, with personnel from the US Coast Guard and State and National Park Services, are searching for a missing Southern California man north of Orick. At about 7:30 this morning the Sheriff’s Office received a call for assistance when it was reported that three hikers had failed to return to their vehicle near Lady Bird Johnson Grove (about 2 ½ miles north of Orick) after they went for a hike yesterday afternoon.

At about 3:00 PM yesterday four Brentwood men stopped to look for mushrooms. Three of the men entered the forest while the fourth man stayed with the car. When his companions did not return, the fourth man called the authorities this morning.

Two of the three missing men walked out of the forest at about 11:30 this morning. They were transported to Mad River Hospital where they were treated for hypothermia.

Still missing is 18 year-old Raymond Unis. The search will continue into the night if necessary.
