An inmate from the Humboldt County Correctional Facility walked away from an outside work crew late yesterday afternoon but was captured less than fifteen minutes later. At about 3:50 PM a Correctional Officer who was supervising an inmate work crew in Fairhaven conducted a routine count of the inmates. The officer discovered that one of the inmates, Austin Edward Neuroth, 25, of Hoopa, was missing. The officer reported the missing inmate to the Sheriff’s Office Communications Center. As deputies responded to area, a resident in the 2300 block of Lindstrom Avenue called the Sheriff’s Office to report a suspicious person hiding on their property. Deputies arrived at the residence and found Neuroth standing in front of the house. He was taken into custody without incident.
Neuroth was returned the custody of the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for Escape, a felony. If convicted, Neuroth may be sentenced to a year in jail.
Prior to walking away from the work crew, Neuroth had been serving nine months for driving on a suspended license and multiple probation violations.
