On 08-19-2004 at 1030 hours the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Drug Enforcement Unit assisted the United States Forest Service with 5 marijuana gardens located on Forest Service property in Dinsmore. Officers used ATV’s to reach the marijuana gardens, because of the remote location. When Officers arrived on scene they located a camp site near the marijuana gardens. When Officers went to investigate the camp site they saw one male subject running away into the woods. After a short foot pursuit Officers located the male subject and detained him. Officers noticed that there were three ATV’s parked at the camp site. Officers then began to check the area for more subjects. Officers did not locate any other subjects in the area.
Officers did located a loaded assault rifle laying on the ground near where the male subject had started to run away from law enforcement. Officers located a second assault rifle leaning next to a tree inside the camp site.
Officers then eradicated a total of 249 marijuana plants from 5 separate garden sites on United States Forest Service Property. The marijuana plants ranged in size from 3 foot to 4 foot in height. The suspects in this case were using their ATV’s to help reach the remote marijuana gardens. Officers seized the 3 ATV’s that were located at the camp site for possible asset seizure.
Officers arrested the one male subject that they had detained for cultivation possession for sales of marijuana and for being armed in the commission of a felony. Officers identified the subject as Jesse Abraham Taylor age 28 from Placerville. Jesse was booked into the Humboldt County jail in Eureka.
This case is still under investigation by the United States Forest Service and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office
