Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating a case of sexual assault after a seventeen year-old female reported waking up, disoriented, in a field in McKinleyville. At about 7:30 AM yesterday morning, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to a gas station in McKinleyville after the teenage victim walked in and asked the clerk there to call law enforcement. The victim reported that the night before (Tuesday, Aug. 31), at about 9:00 PM, she had been walking on Washington Avenue. A man in a dark red car drove up and asked her if she wanted a ride. When she declined, the driver became upset and made some unusual comments regarding her being out in the dark and walking by herself. The man then drove away. The victim reported that she continued walking when she was struck in the back of the head.
The victim awoke yesterday morning in a field west of Central Avenue, behind Bank of America. She sustained a minor head injury and had injuries consistent with a sexual assault. She was treated at a local hospital and released.
Sheriff’s Investigators are interested in talking to the driver who spoke with the victim on Tuesday night. He is described as a white male adult, in his twenties, with dark blonde hair. He was driving a red, 4-door sedan, medium size car. Anyone with information about this case should call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at
