On September 4th Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies traveled to Redding and served three arrest warrants. With the assistance of the Redding Police Department, Deputies took into custody, Rick Whitlow Sr., 45, and Rick Whitlow Jr., 19. A male juvenile, another son of Rick Whitlow Sr., was the third person arrested the Redding residence. The charges include, conspiracy, kidnapping, false imprisonment, robbery, assault with intent to commit great bodily harm, assault with a stun gun, and filing a false police report.
The arrest warrants stem from an ongoing Humboldt County assault investigation involving the Whitlow family in the McCann area of Southern Humboldt. On August 18th the above arrestees initially claimed to be victims of a home invasion style shooting, in which 70 year-old Oral Whitlow was reported to have been the suspect (refer to Sheriff’s Office news release of August 19, 2004). Further investigation led Deputies to believe that the above arrestees’ claim of a shooting was false. It appears the three may have been making the false claim in an attempt to cover up the crimes they had allegedly committed.
Rick Whitlow Sr. and Rick Whitlow Jr. were booked into the Shasta County Jail with $1,000,000 bail each. The juvenile was booked into the Shasta County Juvenile Hall, also with a $1,000,000 bail. All three are awaiting extradition to Humboldt County to face the above charges.
