ON 10-19-2004 AT APPROXIMATELY 1800 HOURS, THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DRUG ENFORCEMENT UNIT ASSISTED THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE WITH A SEARCH WARRANT AT A RESIDENCE AND PROPERTY LOCATED OFF DICK SMITH ROAD, FORTUNA. HUMBOLDT COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE SHASTA COUNTY OFFICE OF THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT (BLM) REGARDING THE ARREST OF A SUBJECT NAMED DALE K. BAGLEY, AGE 44, FROM FORTUNA. DALE BAGLEY WAS ARRESTED BY BLM AGENTS IN SHASTA COUNTY ON 10-15-2004 FOR THE CULTIVATION OF APPROXIMATELY 120 MARIJUANA PLANTS ON BLM PROPERTY. DALE BAGLEY WAS BOOKED INTO THE SHASTA COUNTY JAIL FOR CULTIVATION AND POSSESSION FOR SALES OF MARIJUANA.

WHEN OFFICERS SEARCHED DALE BAGLEY’S RESIDENCE AND PROPERTY, THEY LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 40 OUTDOOR MARIJUANA PLANTS NEAR HIS RESIDENCE THAT HAD RECENTLY BEEN HARVESTED. WHEN OFFICERS SEARCHED BAGLEY’S RESIDENCE THEY FOUND DRYING MARIJUANA PLANTS INSIDE OF THE RESIDENCE. OFFICERS DID NOT LOCATE ANYONE AT THE RESIDENCE WHEN THE SEARCH WARRANT WAS SERVED. THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY DRUG TASK WILL REQUEST A WARRANT FOR DALE BAGLEY’S ARREST THROUGH THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEYS’S OFFICE FOR CULTIVATION AND POSSESSION FOR SALES OF MARIJUANA.

WHEN OFFICERS SERVED THE SEARCH WARRANT AT BAGLEY’S RESIDENCE THEY CONTACTED ADJOINING NEIGHBORS FOR THEIR INVESTIGATION AT THE BAGLEY PROPERTY. WHEN OFFICERS WENT TO THE NEIGHBORS PROPERTY THEY DISCOVERED A LARGE INDOOR MARIJUANA GROWING OPERATION OCCURRING ON THE PROPERTY. OFFICERS THEN SECURED THAT STRUCTURE AND PROPERTY FOR ANOTHER SEARCH WARRANT. AT APPROXIMATELY MIDNIGHT, OFFICERS OBTAINED A SECOND SEARCH WARRANT FOR THE NEIGHBORS PROPERTY. NO SUBJECTS WERE LOCATED ON THE PROPERTY.

WHEN OFFICERS SERVED THE SECOND SEARCH WARRANT THEY SEIZED 3,996 GROWING MARIJUANA PLANTS FROM INSIDE A LARGE TWO STORY SHOP TYPE BUILDING THAT HAD BEEN BUILT SOLELY FOR AN INDOOR COMMERCIAL MARIJUANA GROWING OPERATION. THE MARIJUANA PLANTS RANGED IN SIZE FROM 6 INCHES TO 5 FEET IN HEIGHT. OFFICERS IDENTIFIED EDDIE LANE SHIELDS, AGE 45, FROM FORTUNA AS A SUSPECT IN THIS CASE. OFFICERS WILL REQUEST A WARRANT FOR EDDIE SHIELDS ARREST THROUGH THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE FOR CULTIVATION AND POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA FOR SALES.

AT THIS TIME IT IS UNKNOWN IF BOTH CASES ARE RELATED.

BOTH CASES ARE STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY DRUG TASK FORCE AND THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE.
