The Humboldt County Sheriff's Office's 911 emergency service to southern Humboldt County was interrupted today due to damaged telephone and radio equipment on Pratt Mountain. At about 12:00 PM today, the Sheriff’s Office became aware that citizens dialing 911 from southern Humboldt County were not able to get through to emergency dispatchers. It was determined that a repeater on Pratt Mountain (about 8 miles east of Garberville) had been damaged by this weekend’s winter storm.
The Sheriff’s Office was able to re-route some incoming 911 calls to the Garberville Sheriff’s Station, but only those calls that originated from phones numbers with “923” prefixes. The Sheriff’s Office sent an Emergency Communications Dispatcher to the Garberville Sheriff's Station to handle the incoming calls.
Personnel from Verizon Communications and PG&E were able to access the damaged repeater on Pratt Mountain via snowcat and 911 service was restored at about 4:45 this afternoon.
