Case No#: 200501605
Released By: Brenda Gainey, PIO

Location: Redcrest

Humboldt County Deputies arrested a man yesterday afternoon after it was reported that he threatened to shoot his girlfriend. Shortly before 3:00 p.m. a truck driver, who was parked and sleeping along highway 101 just north of Redcrest, was awakened by a woman who said she needed help. The truck driver called 911 after the woman, Delene Brayer, 39, of Puyallup, Washington told him that her boyfriend had a gun and had threatened to kill her. Brayer’s boyfriend, Leroy Arndt, 39 of Tacoma, Washington, was in a car that was parked about one hundred yards away.

Brayer and Arndt had been arguing as they were traveling when Arndt pulled over and stopped. Brayer reported that Arndt had a handgun, pointed it at her and threatened to kill her. Brayer jumped out of the car and ran to the truck for help.

State Park Rangers, CHP Officers, and Sheriff’s Deputies responded and found Arndt still at the scene. Arndt was taken into custody without incident. State Park Rangers found a loaded handgun in the vehicle. Arndt was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, and willfully threatening to commit a crime which will result in death or great bodily injury to another person. All three charges are felonies and his bail has been set at $50,000. He is expected to be arraigned on Monday. Brayer sustained minor abrasions when she fled from the vehicle to get help.
