A gas station employee who was suspected of stealing money and cigarettes from his employer last week turned himself in to Sheriff’s Deputies. Michael Joseph Lutje, 36 of Eureka, was suspected of taking money from the cash drawer before walking off his job at the McKinleyville gas station where he was employed. On April 10, at about 11:30 p.m. a customer notified law enforcement when he could not find an attendant at the gas station.
At about 8:00 p.m. last evening, Lutje came to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in Eureka and turned himself in. He was taken to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked on one count of felony embezzlement. His bail has been set at $15,000 and he is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
