Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies and members of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse were called out Tuesday night after three hikers became stranded in the King’s Range area. At about 6:30 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies were notified that a woman had called on her cellular phone and had reported that she and her two friends had been hiking all day in the rain. They were wet and cold and were afraid they were not going to be able to make it back to their vehicle in Shelter Cove. The woman reported that they were at the intersection of Spanish Ridge Trail and Cooksie Creek Trail; they added that they could not get their stove started.
Sheriff’s Deputies, Posse members and a BLM Ranger met at the Honeydew Creek Campground with ATV’s and other vehicles. They located the hikers at about 12:30 a.m. They were cold and wet but otherwise in good condition. The BLM Ranger transported the three hikers back to their vehicle at Black Sands Beach in Shelter Cove.
