The body of a Shelter Cove man who had been reported missing last week was found in a heavily wooded area near Shelter Cove Road near the Ettersburg Junction yesterday. Michael Patrick Berry, 51, had been reported missing on November 14, 2005. Sheriff’s Deputies learned that the California Highway Patrol had found Mr. Berry’s overturned vehicle on Shelter Cove Rd. on the morning of November 10. Witnesses reportedly spoke to a man matching Mr. Berry’s description at the crash site prior to CHP’s arrival that morning, but officers were unable to locate anyone at the vehicle. Upon receiving the missing persons report on November 14, the Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation into the whereabouts of Mr. Berry. The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Posse searched the area where Mr. Berry’s vehicle had been found.
Yesterday morning, Mr. Berry’s body was found in a densely wooded area, approximately 3/10 of a mile from where his vehicle had been recovered.
The case has been handed over to the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.
