Last night Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to reported assault and battery incident and arrived to find a homicide had occurred. At about 7:30 p.m. deputies were called to a residence on the 400 block of Crocketts Crossing in Fieldbrook. Deputies found a deceased male lying in the driveway. The decedent has been identified Robert Peter Wyland, 58 of Fieldbrook and the preliminary cause of death is a stab wound.
As deputies and Sheriff’s detectives began their investigation, they learned of a second stabbing victim at a local hospital. The second person, a 46-year-old man from Fieldbrook, got a ride to the hospital prior to the deputies’ arrival; he is in stable condition.
At 6:00 a.m. this morning, detectives arrested Michael Kenneth Throckmorton, 24, and booked him into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Throckmorton lived at the residence on Crockets Crossing Road where the incident took place. There had been an ongoing landlord/tenant disagreement, although neither Wyland nor the other injured man lived at the residence. Both men may have been at the Throckmorton residence in connection with the continuing civil dispute.
Throckmorton’s bail has been set at $1,000,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
