A Humboldt County Sheriff’s deputy was involved in a traffic accident late Friday evening. On April 28, 2006 at about 10:00 p.m. a deputy accidentally struck two pedestrians, who were crossing Harris Street, as he was on patrol. The accident occurred on the 1200 block of Harris Street, near M Street. The deputy immediately stopped and rendered medical aid to the two until emergency medical personnel arrived. The two pedestrians were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released. Both pedestrians are 15 years-old and their names are not being released due to their ages.
In accordance with Sheriff’s Office policy, the accident will be investigated both internally and by the law enforcement agency in whose jurisdiction the accident occurred – in this case, the California Highway Patrol.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
