A McKinleyville man was arrested Saturday after telling Sheriff’s Deputies he had tried to kill his wife. At about 10:40 a.m. Roderick Michael Rivas, 40 of McKinleyville, arrived at the Sheriff’s Office in Eureka and told deputies he was there to turn himself in. During the subsequent interview, Rivas said he had tried to strangle his wife the night before (5/12/06).
Deputies responded to the McKinleyville residence where the incident took place and contacted the victim. The victim’s statement corroborated what Rivas had told deputies and she had injuries consistent with the statements.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Rivas and booked him for attempted murder, making threats with the intent to terrorize, false imprisonment, and domestic violence (all four charges are felonies). His bail has been set at $500,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Wednesday.
