On Monday, October 9, 2006 the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office was called after human remains were found on private property. At about 11:00 Monday morning Sheriff’s Deputies were sent to Green Diamond property near Fieldbrook after workers there discovered a human skull. A Sheriff’s Detective and personnel from the Coroner’s Office also arrived at the scene. No additional remains were located.
On Wednesday, October 11, 2006 personnel from the Sheriff’s Office returned to the area to conduct a thorough search of the scene. Participating in the search were Sheriff’s Detectives, an Evidence Technician, a Sheriff’s Posse member (with a cadaver dog), and a D.A. investigator. Yesterday’s search yielded no further remains but investigators found a number of other items in the general area where the skull had been found. The items include a pair of binoculars, a set of keys with a Honda car key, a green nylon jacket liner, and several lighters.
Investigators have not identified the remains. The skull will be examined by an anthropologist to determine the gender (and possible age) of the decedent. The case has been turned over to the Coroner’s Office and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to assist in the investigation. Anyone with information regarding the discovery should call the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office at (707)445-7242 or Sheriff’s Detective Marvin Kirkpatrick at (707)268-3661.
