Humboldt County Sheriff’s Investigators arrested a Eureka man yesterday afternoon and booked him for child molestation and possession of child pornography. Yesterday afternoon the California Highway Patrol was conducting an unrelated investigation that led Sheriff’s Detectives to 23 year-old Matthew Christopher Davis. Sheriff’s Detectives obtained a search warrant and seized several computers and other evidence from Davis’ home on the 2100 block of Surfside Court in Eureka. Davis was subsequently arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for committing a lewd or lascivious act upon a child under the age of 14 years, possession of child pornography, burglary, and possession of stolen property.
The suspect was a neighbor and acquaintance of the victim. Due to confidentiality laws and to protect the privacy of the victim, few additional details can be released at this time. Davis’ bail has been set at $75,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Tuesday. The investigation is continuing.
