Subject: Sheriff’s Office Saves Suicidal Man Case: 200702698
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Early yesterday morning Humboldt County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a cellular telephone call from a man who said he wanted to kill himself. Emergency Communications Dispatcher Emilee Henry spoke to the man who told her he was in the mountains somewhere and that he wanted to kill himself. She continued to talk to the man, trying to calm him while gathering as much information as she could. The man hung up several times only to call back to say he was continuing with his plan. This continued for almost forty minutes. At one point in the conversation the man revealed he was near a pond near his girlfriends house. Based on information the dispatcher was able to get from the caller, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in Blue Lake. Deputies found the 39 year-old Eureka resident unconscious, with only a faint pulse after he attempted to hang himself.
Sheriff’s Deputies were able to open his airway and revive the man. They then placed him in a patrol car and drove him to West End Road where an ambulance was waiting. The man was alert and able to speak. The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment and further observation.
