Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a missing woman at about 11:30 this morning. Erica Calhoun reported that her sister, Maura Kit Calhoun, 48, might be missing. Erica told deputies that Maura has some mental health issues. Erica also explained that on Wednesday, August 22, rangers from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) had contacted her. The BLM Rangers told Erica they had found Maura’s belongings in the area of the mouth of the Mattole River.

Erica reported that she had last seen Maura about two or three months ago near 11th and F Streets in Arcata. Erica added that they have a half-sister in Petrolia who had already been contacted.

Maura is a white adult, but she tans very darkly. She is about 5’2” tall and slender, only weighing about 100 pounds. She has dark brown hair that falls below the shoulder; her eyes are hazel. It is unknown what she was last wearing but she is known to where “stylish” clothes with a hat. She does not have any known scars or tattoo; she is known to walk or hitchhike.
