At about 1:30 this morning a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy was on patrol in Garberville when he attempted to contact a pedestrian on Redwood Drive. As the deputy approached the man, later identified as Majadi Scruggs, 35 of Sacramento, Scruggs ran from the deputy, toward a nearby motel. The deputy pursued Scruggs on foot and followed him into the motel parking lot. In the parking lot, Scruggs stopped running and surrendered to the Deputy. The Deputy determined Scruggs had a felony warrant out of Lake County. Additionally, Scruggs was on formal probation with a search clause. Scruggs was arrested and searched. On the ground where Scruggs had been arrested, Deputies found a clear plastic bag containing more than thirty-nine grams of cocaine. They also found a tote-tub containing three pounds of marijuana.
After finding a motel room key on Scruggs, Deputies searched his room. Inside his motel room they found almost three more pounds of marijuana, and two scales.
Scruggs was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for possession of marijuana for sale, possession of a narcotic controlled substance, and possession of a narcotic controlled substance for sale. He was also booked on the Lake County warrant (for identity theft).
He posted bail on both matters (Humboldt and Lake Counties). He is scheduled to appear in Humboldt County Superior Court on 12/28/07 at 1:30 p.m. He is scheduled to appear in Lake County on 12/17/07.
