Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two juveniles yesterday in connection with the recent series of arsons involving Molotov cocktails. The boys, both 16 of Eureka, were arrested following an aggressive investigation that included an FBI agent from the Joint Terrorism Task Force in San Francisco.
As previously reported, two Molotov cocktails had been found in separate incidents. Then, on July 09, at about 1:00 am, deputies were called to the 2000 block of Skyline Drive on Humboldt Hill for a reported fire. Deputies discovered another Molotov cocktail had been thrown under a car parked in the victim’s driveway. A small fire started and the residents were able to extinguish it. There was no serious damage to the vehicle and no injuries were reported. This was the third such explosive device found in less than two weeks.
The boys were charged with arson, manufacturing an incendiary device, and possession of an incendiary device. The case has been handed over to District Attorney for charging.
