The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the District Attorney’s Office, is continuing the investigation into the case against Andrew Brian Belant. Belant was arrested Saturday and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for a lewd or lascivious act with a child under 14 and oral copulation with a child under 14. Belant was arraigned Tuesday afternoon and the District Attorney’s Office amended his charges to include four additional charges relating to the sexual assault or molestation of a child. Late Tuesday night the Sheriff’s Detective investigating the case booked Belant for 15 additional charges also relating to the sexual assault or molestation of a child. The additional charges raised Belant’s bail to $800,000.
As previously released, Belant was employed at Jacoby Creek Elementary School as a teacher’s aid. He was also a junior youth pastor at Eureka First Presbyterian Church. Belant was a counselor with Triumphant Life Camp (TLC) on HWY 36, east of Bridgeville and he previously held positions with Lafayette Elementary School and the Humboldt Child Care Council.
