The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrested a man in Blue Lake last night after a citizen interrupted his attempt at stealing from a car. At about 11:15 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies received a report that a resident had interrupted a vehicle break-in on the 100 block of Evergreen Street in Blue Lake. Deputies, who were in the area, arrived within 60 seconds. After getting a suspect description from the victim, Sgt. Kevin Miller found a man matching the description hiding behind a tree. When Sgt. Miller attempted to contact the man he fled. Sgt. Miller pursued him on foot and was able to take him into custody. The suspect was identified as Drew Jerry Stonebarger, 19 of McKinleyville. The victim positively identified Stonebarger as the person he had caught inside his vehicle. The victim added that he had attempted to apprehend Stonebarger himself but Stonebarger was able to run away.
