A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy was injured late Saturday night while attempting to arrest a man who was involved in a fight at a business in Eureka. At about 11:30 p.m. a Sheriff’s Deputy and his partner were conducting a traffic stop at 5th and H Streets in Eureka. During the traffic stop, one of the deputies saw two men fighting in front of a nearby business. They concluded the traffic stop and responded to the fight. As they tried to break up the fight onlookers told them that one of the involved parties was a “bouncer” and the other was a patron. The patron, Jesse L. Dias, 23 of McKinleyville, failed to comply with the deputies’ verbal commands to stop fighting. Instead, Dias began to fight with deputies. During the altercation one deputy sustained a fractured ankle; he is expected to be off work for six weeks.
Dias was arrested and booked for battery with serious bodily injury, battery against a peace officer, obstructing/resisting an executive officer. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned on Wednesday.
