Last night at about 9:30 p.m. a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle at Humboldt Hill Dr. and Bongio Ct. The deputy asked both the driver and passenger if either of them were on probation or parole. Both denied being on either. A records check revealed that the driver, Andrew Haid, 40 of Arcata, had a suspended driver’s license and there was an active parole warrant for his arrest. The deputy arrested Haid without incident. The passenger, Michael McBride Jr., 33 of Eureka was asked to step out of the vehicle. The deputy discovered that McBride had a loaded semi-automatic pistol tucked in the rear waistband of his pants. McBride also had a glass jar containing marijuana and concentrated cannabis tucked inside the sleeve of his jacket. A status check of he pistol revealed it had been reported stolen through Arcata Police Department. McBride was placed under arrest without incident and both men were transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility.
Haid was booked for driving on a suspended license and a parole violation. He is not eligible to post bail due to his parole status.
McBride was booked for being a felon/addict in possession of a firearm, receiving known stolen property, possession of marijuana, and possession of concentrated cannabis. His bail has been set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned Monday.
