Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an isolated area off Nooning Creek Rd. in Whitethorn yesterday after receiving a report of found skeletal remains. At about 10:30 a.m. a man reported he had been walking in the area and found a parked SUV. Nearby he found the remains. Deputies confirmed the remains were human and Sheriff’s Detectives, a Humboldt County Deputy Coroner, and a Department of Justice Criminalist arrived at the scene at about 2:00 p.m. They estimated the remains had been there for several months.
The case does not appear to be suspicious at this time. There has been a preliminary identification made of the decedent. The cause of death has not been determined yet and the case has been handed over to the Coroner’s Office. Any additional information will be released by the Coroner’s Office as it becomes available.
