The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a felony case of vandalism and arson that was reported yesterday in Field’s Landing. Yesterday morning the owner of Humboldt Bay Forest Products reported that overnight (the night of Monday 10/06 or early morning of Tuesday 10/07) one his company’s trucks had been stolen and several other vehicles on the property had been moved and damaged. One tractor-trailer had a damaged drive shaft and trailer. A second tractor-trailer had been driven with its trailer brakes engaged, damaging all ten tires. Additionally, the company’s Caterpillar 988 loader had been moved and driven over the company’s scale, causing approximately $20,000 in damage.
As the owner of the company was making his report to the Sheriff’s Office, the California Highway Patrol recovered the stolen truck (a Ford F150), which had been destroyed by fire near Loma Ave. in Eureka.
The Sheriff’s Office evidence technician processed the vehicles for evidence and the case is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the incident should call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office at (707) 455-7251.
