An inmate in the Humboldt County Correctional Facility attempted suicide early this morning. At about 12:15 a.m. a correctional officer discovered the 47-year-old man had hanged himself inside his cell. The man was housed alone inside the cell. Correctional staff immediately cut the man down and started resuscitation efforts. Medical staff also responded and assisted in the CPR and rescue breathing. The man was transported to a local hospital where he remains on life support.
He had been in custody since December 5, 2006 for ongoing court proceedings. The Sheriff’s Office is not releasing his name in order to protect his right to privacy under medical privacy laws. Additional information will be released as it becomes available and appropriate.
