Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a McKinleyville man this morning after receiving a report of a stabbing earlier in the morning. Shortly after midnight a deputy sheriff was dispatched to a local hospital where Grady Donald Longacre, 31 of McKinleyville, was being treated for a stab wound to his abdomen. After interviewing several witnesses the deputy learned that Longacre and another man, David Dwayne Ganfield, 30 of McKinleyville, had become involved in a physical altercation at a residence on A Street in McKinleyville. Witnesses indicated that Ganfield stabbed Longacre during the fight.
Additional deputies searched the A Street neighborhood for Ganfield but were unable to find him. This morning at about 10:00, David Ganfield contacted a deputy sheriff at the McKinleyville Station. The deputy arrested Ganfield and transported him to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Thursday.
Longacre’s injury was serious but medical staff indicated it was not life threatening.
