Three men were arrested Friday night for the murder of Ezra Sanders. Sheriff’s Detective Troy Garey, partnering with DA Investigator Steve Dunn, arrested the following men:
Jeffrey Alan Burgess, 38 of Eureka.
Lukas Larry Mace, 30 of Orleans.
Ruben Anthony Peredia, 32 of Eureka.
The arrests are the result of an extensive investigation into the homicide of Ezra Sanders who was killed at his McKinleyville home on February 24. The investigation included interviews of approximately 40 witnesses, the service of multiple search warrants, and involved personnel from Trinidad, Arcata, Eureka, and Fortuna Police Departments, the California Highway Patrol, and the Department of Justice.
The investigation revealed that Burgess, Mace, and Peredia drove from Eureka to McKinleyville with the intent to rob Sanders. During the robbery Sanders was shot once in the upper torso and the three men fled. The vehicle believed to have been used during the homicide has been recovered and will be processed for forensic evidence by the Department of Justice.
All three men were booked for murder and attempted robbery. They are expected to be arraigned by Tuesday.
