On Tuesday Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to the Crooked Prairie Fire Station after the fire crew there discovered a burglary. The fire station, part of the Briceland Fire Company, had been broken into and multiple pieces of fire fighting equipment (worth more than $5,000) were stolen. A security camera recorded the burglary and revealed that the suspect actually had entered the station on two separate occasions.
Yesterday deputies contacted several people in the area and showed them pictures of the suspect. The suspect was identified as James Bruce McDonnell, 49 of Salinas. Deputies arrested McDonnell and booked him into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for burglary and possession of stolen property. His bail was set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned Friday.
The stolen equipment was recovered and returned to the fire station.
