Case No#: 200905465
Released By: Brenda Godsey

Location: Fairhaven

Monday evening at about 5:15 a Sheriff’s Deputy was called to State Route 255 near Fairhaven to a reported vehicle burglary. A citizen had witnessed a subject running from a parked vehicle that had a broken window. The witness watched the subject leave in another vehicle and noted the license plate number. The responding deputy arrived at the location and was investigating the burglarized vehicle when the owner of the vehicle returned form the beach. The owner confirmed her car had been burglarized and provided the deputy with a list of items missing form the vehicle. Meanwhile, the deputy had run the license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle that was provided by the witness. The suspect’s car was registered to Zachariah Friedland, 30 of Eureka. Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Friedland’s residence on the 200 block of Huntoon Street and knocked on the door several times. Friedland is currently on parole and deputies intended to conduct a search of Friedland and his residence per the terms of his parole. A woman at the house told deputies Friedland had left but deputies found him hiding in the attic. Deputies searched Friedland and found a set of keys. One key opened the residence’s garage; inside the garage deputies found numerous items that had been reported stolen from other burglary cases.

Friedland was arrested and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for burglary, possession of stolen property, and a parole violation. He is ineligible to post bail due to his parole status. He is expected to be arraigned Thursday.

The case is still under investigation and additional arrests are expected.

Numerous stolen items were recovered from the Huntoon Street residence. Deputies found several digital cameras, DVD players, and other small electronic devices. Some of the property can be traced back to an owner but some cannot. Victims of car burglaries, particularly in the Samoa area, are encouraged to contact the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office in an effort to return their property to them.
