The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an act of arson that has caused thousands of dollars in damages to Redwood Fields in Cutten. At about 10:20 this morning a deputy sheriff was flagged down by two citizens who told him of the fire at the sports complex. The deputy responded to the scene and found a still-smoldering pile of debris. Further investigation revealed that five picnic tables (three of the five tables were made of solid redwood) and four plastic garbage bins had been piled together. The entire pile had been stacked over the cover of a sewage lift pump and set on fire. The fire destroyed the pump, the tank, and the items that had been pile on top.
Redwood Fields President Rex Bohn estimated the damages at $18,000.
