On Saturday, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search for Garberville resident Sam Dunlea Cushman, who has been missing since last April. On Friday, October 16, 2009, a citizen who was hunting on private property found Mr. Cushman’s vehicle approximately two mile south of Island Mountain in Trinity County. The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office notified Trinity County Officials of the find. Saturday, Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies, Sheriff’s Posse members, and three dogs and their handlers from the California Rescue Dog Association (CARDA) conducted a search of the area where Mr. Cushman’s vehicle had been found.
The search team located human skeletal remains a short distance from Mr. Cushman’s truck. Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies contacted the Trinity County Sheriff/Coroner’s Office (TCSO) again upon finding human remains. The TCSO responded to the scene and took possession of the remains. As of this morning, the recovered remains have not been positively identified.
Any additional information regarding this case will be released by the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office
