Subject: Methamphetamine Arrest/Deputy Injured
Contact: Brenda Godsey, PIO
Case No#: 201003011
Released By: Brenda Godsey

Location: Redway

A Garberville man was arrested last night after he assaulted a Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputy and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine. At about 9:00 last night a Deputy approached a bicyclist near the intersection of Redway Drive and Empire Lane in Redway. The deputy advised the bicyclist, Kenneth Brian Farrell, 39, that he was in violation of lighting requirements for his bike. Farrell’s speech was slurred and he failed to follow basic instructions from the deputy. The deputy learned that Farrell was on probation with a search clause. The deputy told Farrell to step off his bike and set his backpack on the hood of the patrol car. Farrell refused and the deputy attempted to place him in handcuffs. Farrell refused to comply and began to struggle with the deputy who called for an additional deputy. Farrell, who is 6’2” tall and weighs about 260 pounds, fought violently with both deputies. Farrell was able to grab one deputy by the shirt collar and they fell to the ground, with the deputy injuring his wrist. Farrell was kneeling over the deputy when a Tazer was deployed. The deputies were then able to place Farrell in handcuffs. A search of his backpack revealed he was in possession of 0.3 grams of methamphetamine. Farrell was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility where he was booked for obstructing/threatening an executive officer, resisting a public officer, possession of methamphetamine, and a probation violation. His bail has been set at $50,000 and he is expected to be arraigned by Thursday.
