The Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program (SWAP) and the Humboldt Senior Resource Center are pleased to announce the start of the annual Senior Wood Project. The project allows for the distribution of low-cost firewood to moderate or low-income senior citizens over 55 whose primary source of heat is firewood. The program began in January of 1991 and since then, SWAP has distributed approximately 15,700 cords of low-cost firewood to those in need.
The program will operate on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. starting Saturday, August 07, 2010 through Saturday, December 18, 2010 or until the wood is gone. The wood can be picked up behind the General Hospital Campus at 2200 Harrison Ave., Eureka, at the SWAP wood lot. The wood is sold on a voucher system, according to income.
