Humboldt County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two people early yesterday morning after a foot-chase. At about 2:45 a.m. two deputies on patrol in the Loleta area. They spotted a Mazda pick-up truck matching the description of one that had been reported stolen from Eureka. Deputies turned around to conduct a vehicle investigation and found the truck stopped in the middle of Singley Road, still running. Deputies saw a male subject jump over a barbed-wire fence and run into a field. Deputies chased the subject, Fredrick William Scott, 37 of Eureka, catching up to him after about 100 yards.
Deputies located a purse near the fence, with identification in it belonging to Vanessa Gean Stowe, 21 of Eureka. Deputies set a perimeter around the area and found Stowe attempting to hide in tall grass.
Scott and Stowe were arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for auto theft, possession of stolen property, and obstruct/resisting a peace officer. Scott was also booked for a parole violation and is not eligible to post bail. Stowe’s bail was set at $25,000; both are expected to be arraigned by Friday.
